BOYS' TENNIS
ALTON SQUEAKS BY VISITING CHAMINADE — The Alton Redbirds welcomed Chaminade on Wednesday and squeezed out a 5-4 team victory.
With the win, the Redbirds improved to 3-9 overall on the season in dual action.
After falling behind 2-1 in doubles play, Alton racked up four singles wins to nab the triumph.
Jackson Scheiter locked down the decisive match at No. 2 singles to complete the comeback. Carl Stradal, Kain Henson and Drew Hays secured the other singles wins for the Birds.
Stradal and Hays paired up for the lone doubles win at the No. 2 position.
AHS now competes in the 16-team Belleville East Invite on Friday and Saturday.
SOFTBALL
SCHORMAN NO-HITS HILLSBORO IN MARQUETTE WIN — Freshman Meghan Schorman seems to be settling in as a varsity softball player for the Marquette Catholic Explorers.
Schorman threw her third no-hitter in four games as the Explorers pounded the Hillsboro Hiltoppers 11-0 in five innings on Wednesday at home.
Schorman tossed five innings, throwing 92 pitches and striking out 10 while walking three.
If that wasn't enough, Schorman went 2 for 3 with a solo home run Wednesday, providing two of Marquette's 13 hits in the game. Tess Eberlin led the way with three hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Kalie Buecker was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Miranda Schroeder had two hits and two RBIs in the won, too.
The Explorers return to action at 4 p.m. Friday against Mascoutah and at 7 p.m. against Carbondale in a double header at Gordon Moore Park.
ALTON BLASTS CAHOKIA — The Alton Redbirds have now won two straight and four out of their last five games after blasting Cahokia 18-0 in five innings on the road Wednesday.
The Birds improved to 8-7 overall with the triumph.
Alicia Goewey handled her business in the circle, tossing a five-inning no-hitter, while striking out 12 and walking two.
The Redbirds struck gold early, plating 11 runs in the top of the first inning. Bronte Fencel and Miranda Hudson were each 3 for 4 with three RBIs in the victory to lead the way. Katelyn Presley and Savannah Fisher each had two hits and three RBIs in the win, too. Presley and Hudson both knocked triples in the triumph.
Alton returns to Southwestern Conference action at 4:30 p.m. today in Granite City.
CM STRUGGLES IN MVC LOSS TO TRIAD — The Civic Memorial Eagles took on the Triad Knights on the road Wednesday in Mississippi Valley Conference action with unflattering results.
The Eagles lost to the Knights 12-1 in five innings, sinking to 6-9 overall on the season and 1-3 in the MVC. Triad improved to 10-4 and 3-0 on the league slate.
CM only mustered three hits in the loss against the Knights. It was the third consecutive loss for the Eagles.
The game remained scoreless until the third when Triad erupted for six runs. CM scratched across one run in the fourth, but the Knights answered with six more in the home-half of the inning.
Jordyn Alford homered twice and picked up the win in the circle for Triad. Abi Knopf chipped in with a home run in the win for the Knights, too.
CM is idle until 4:15 p.m. Monday when it battles Mascoutah in MVC action at the Bethalto Sports Complex.
ROXANA LOSES TO STAUNTON IN SCC PLAY — The Roxana Shells slipped up against the Staunton Bulldogs in an 8-6 South Central Conference loss on Wednesday in Roxana.
With the loss the Shells are now 7-12 and 2-2 in the SCC. Staunton improved to 6-4 and 4-0.
Freshman Hannah Rexford took the loss in the circle, going seven innings and scattering eight hits while fanning eight and walking three. She allowed eight runs, but only four earned.
Offensively, Cindy Scroggins had two hits and two RBIs to lead the way. Shelby Jackson also had two hits and a RBI in the win, while Sam Sherer had a hit and two RBIs in the defeat.
Roxana is back on the diamond at 4:30 p.m. Friday in SCC action against Gillespie at home.
BASEBALL
MARQUETTE CRUISES BY HILLSBORO — The Marquette Catholic Explorers picked up a 12-2 victory over the Hillsboro Hiltoppers on the road Wednesday.
The Explorers improved to 8-8 on the season with the win.
Max Goepel got the win for Marquette on the hill, while Nate Seiner had four hits to lead the offense and Liam Maher picked up three. Jake Eggering and Danny Holtz both had three RBIs for the Explorers also.
Marquette is back in action at 4:30 p.m. Friday vs. Nokomis at home.
REARDON HURLS ONE-HITTER IN WIN OVER STAUNTON — The Roxana Shells blanked the Staunton Bulldogs 3-0 in South Central Conference action on Wednesday.
Roxana raised its season mark to 8-8 and 3-1 in the SCC with the victory.
Logan Reardon dazzled on the hill for the Shells in the win. The senior hurler, bound for Lincoln Land Community College next season, threw a complete game one-hitter, fanning 13 and walking no one.
Reardon also had two hits, including a triple, in the win. Bill Mathis posted two hits and a RBI and Sam Mosby had a double and a RBI also.
Next up for Roxana is a 4:30 p.m. game today at Mascoutah.
CM SLIPS PAST TRIAD FOR FIRST MVC WIN — The Civic Memorial Eagles earned their first Mississippi Valley Conference win on Wednesday, defeating Triad 3-0 at the Bethalto Sports Complex.

Brandon Hampton directed the Eagles, tossing a two-hitter on the mound.
