Anderson, a 6-foot-5 senior forward, is having a good season for the Alton Redbirds and picked up the pace a little more recently. Anderson, an SIUE recruit, was named to the All-Tournament team at the Team Works Invitational in Washington on Monday after leading the Redbirds to the finals where they lost on a buzzer beater 45-44 to host Washington. Anderson posted 12 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
He logged his biggest performance in a 63-57 win over Greyslake North with 22 points, four rebounds and five steals.
Anderson produced two big performances in Southwestern Conference games last week with 18 points in a 67-58 loss to East St. Louis on Jan. 13 and 18 points and six rebounds in a 63-52 win over Edwardsville on Jan. 16.
Zac Blasioli | Wrestling
A sophomore at East Alton-Wood River, Blasioli posted back-to-back outstanding performances for the Oilers. The honorable mention at 152 pounds in the state in Class 1A went 4-0 with three pins at the EA-WR Super Duals on Jan. 17 and then won two bouts by pin and one by forfeit Tuesday in Roxana.
His biggest win was a decision over Civic Memorial’s Brayton Williams at the Super Duals. Williams is the No. 3 wrestler in the state at 152 pounds in Class 2A.
For the season, Blasioli is 20-7 overall. He finished third at the CM Tournament, fourth at 160 at the Mount Olive Tournament and sixth at 160 at the Mascoutah Tournament earlier in the season.
Blasioli earned a sixth-place medal at state as a freshman and is looking to build on that this season.
