The Redbirds had a banner weekend in sectionals. 5 of 6 Redbirds qualified for the the state tournament, next week in Chicago, to help the Redbirds place second in sectionals. Allan Bower went 3-1 and had a dramatic quarterfinal victory to advance. He defeated 2 time state qualifier Jake Bennett to win third in sectionals. Adam Ruckman and Kain Henson finished third by defeating teammates Carl Stradal and Kain Henson in the third place match. Ruckman and Henson had a sensational three set victory over Triad on Friday to advance to state, It is the 18th straight year the Redbirds have advanced players to the state tournament,. The state tournament begins Thursday in the Northwest Chicago suburbs.
