FENTON • Alton High senior midfielder C.J. Nasello called it embarrassing.

Teammate Logan Clark was "humiliated."

Simply put, the Redbirds were not pleased after their dismal performance in a two-goal loss to Seckman in pool play at the 62nd annual CYC/Bob Guelker Memorial Soccer Tournament.

 

They got a chance at redemption on Saturday night — and they made the most of it.

Nasello converted on a penalty kick midway through the first half to propel Alton to a 2-1 win over Seckman in the championship match of the Msgr. Lloyd Sullivan Division of the talent-rich 37-team affair at Soccer Park.

Alton (10-3) squeezed into the final by winning two of three pool play matches, including a 2-1 overtime triumph Friday over Troy.

That gave the Redbirds another shot at Seckman.
